The Dyckman Farmhouse Museum is NYC’s only remaining Dutch colonial house (circa 1764). The Baker Athletics Complex is Columbia University’s sporting ground. Republica Restaurant has a popular rooftop. The Hudson restaurant has gorgeous Hudson River and George Washington Bridge views May to October. Mamajuana Cafe is an anchor of the strip of restaurants on Dyckman west of Broadway. La Casa del Mofongo is famous for Mofongo (Mangú, Fufu) the mashed plantains that are home food in the Caribbean and West Africa. The sofa in back is the best seat in the house.Ĭachapas y Mas is Venezuelan fried food that is popular with the young crowd. It’s nicely decorated, so it’s a good date place and a place to take your parents or in-laws. ![]() It’s a fun weekend spot.Ĩ09 is a bar where NYC’s Dominican community gathers.Īmores Café is a coffee house that gets rave reviews and has some live music.īocaditos Bistro is an upscale cafe with good food from the Mamajuana Group. The row of restaurants and bars on Dyckman between Broadway and Payson had outdoor dining before it became popular in NYC. I recommend it and would go back again! And please note, my photos aren’t great, and don’t represent the food well, but it was delivery to my office.The Henry Hudson Bridge, Broadway Bridge and University Heights Bridge connect Inwood and The Bronx.ĭyckman and Broadway are Inwood’s main streets. Their yoyos (sweet plantain sandwich) and pepitos (traditional Venezuelan sandwich) also look tasty. Please know I did not eat all of these things in a single sitting! This restaurant had a large menu of authentic Venezuelan street food, and even my palate, which has become used to flour, liked their maize dishes. I also ordered pineapple and passion fruit juice, both of which were very fresh and refreshing! I liked them both, but liked the passion fruit better. It was also very good, savory, with good contrast between the cheese and the salty cool ham. I also got the cachapa (sweet corn pancake) -ham and cheese, which is a Venezuelan dish made with maize flour and other ingredients. The hot sauce added wasn’t spicy, but added flavor. I don’t like tomatoes that aren’t fresh garden tomatoes because they don’t have taste, but whatever their source, these tomatoes were juicy and added freshness to the meat and corn patties. It also came with sauces, lettuce, and a tomato. I ordered the shredded chicken arepa (traditional cornmeal cake), which was also tender and juicy with good flavors. The restaurant mistakenly sent me a cheese empanada instead of chicken, and it was a little too heavy for me (fried corn and cheese? Can’t do it). greasier than other types of empanadas I’ve had in the past. These empanadas were made with fried corn dough, so they were a little. The beef was very well seasoned and flavorful. ![]() I ordered two empanadas, beef and chicken. The delivery was delayed, but the food was very good.
